Photoaging, which is described as skin damage caused by exposure to sunlight and UV, is estimated to be responsible for 90% of the changes to your skin as you age. Australians are particularly at risk from sun damage as Australia is exposed to some of the highest UV levels in the world, due to the ozone hole and our location close to the equator. UV light is only partially affected by clouds so even on overcast days you can still be exposed to the dangerous levels of UV light.
Skin is made up of several layers, with the middle layer containing the majority of the collagen and elastin that give skin its firm, smooth appearance. UV light is able to penetrate deep into the lower layers of the skin, damaging collagen fibres and the skin’s DNA. The changes to DNA reduce the skin’s ability to repair damage and over time accelerate the appearance of the sun damage on the skin.
Here at Jade, we help restore your skin to a more youthful, healthier appearance by working to repair the damage caused by the sun.
