Fat Dissolving Treatment

The area to be treated is marked with a special grid, enabling us to precisely administer the injection. Small injections with an ultra-fine needle are then made into the fatty tissue. The procedure takes approximately 10-15 minutes.

Local anaesthetic is injected into the treated area to ensure complete comfort.

Most people start noticing results at 4 weeks, with maximum results seen approximately 5 months after last treatment.

The most common side effects we see are mild and not permanent:

• Swelling – we expect to see swelling around the neck as it means the treatment is working! The swelling is at is at its worst about 48 hours after the procedure
• Temporary numbness under the chin – approximately 50% of patients will feel this slight numbness after their treatment, with symptoms wearing off after 30 days on average
• Warmth and redness – 40% of patients will feel warmth or redness under the chin on the day of their treatment
• Firmness under the chin – studies show that 16% of patients will feel firmness or ‘induration’ under the skin after treatment. This is no cause for concern and resolves, on average, after 51 days according to studies

Rare side effects such as temporary problems with a weak smile, weak facial muscles, and trouble swallowing have been reported to occur in a small 2% of people. This is due to variances in facial anatomy from person to person. The average time for this to resolve is 44 days.

The injection we use contains a fat-metabolising agent that is soybean-derived and naturally occurring in our bodies. When it comes in contact with your fat cells, it destroys them. The targeted fat cells will not regenerate, which is why this is a permanent solution to double chin fat. Without the fat, your skin tightens and your chin and jawline appear slimmed and contoured.

A minimum of two treatments are required. The precise number will depend on how much excess fat is present. Most patients will require between 2-4 treatments, however, in some instances, up to 6 treatments will be required to completely eliminate their double chin.

A minimum of six weeks is required between treatments. Results are assessed six weeks after each treatment to determine if further treatments are indicated.

Once the desired aesthetic result has been achieved, no further treatments will be required.

Often, double chin fat is unrelated to diet and lifestyle factors, including gaining and losing weight. We treat many patients who have lost considerable amounts of weight, yet still maintain a disproportionate and prominent double chin.
