Wrinkles

Australian women report more severe signs of facial ageing.

Our skin is our most visible organ, so signs of skin ageing like wrinkles can have a big impact on self-esteem. Wrinkles and fine lines result from a combination of internal and external factors. Internally, ageing causes the top layer of our skin to thin and lose collagen, elastin and fat, so the skin sags, develops wrinkles from repeated facial movements, and is more prone to pigmentation, broken capillaries and enlarged pores.

Externally, UV exposure, air pollution and smoking can also break down our elastin, as well as promote collagen breakdown, leading to dry and coarse skin. These factors have a greater impact than you may realise – in 2013, a self-reported questionnaire revealed that Australian women reported more severe facial lines and higher rates of facial change with age than women from the other countries, particularly those from the US. This came as no surprise, with those living in Australia being exposed to higher levels of UV radiation, which is responsible for most age-associated cosmetic skin problems in fair-skinned people.

To combat, prevent, delay and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, we combine medical treatments that get to the science behind ageing to deliver noticeable results you’ll love.

Unwanted Fat

Permanent fat reduction without surgery.

Fat can accumulate in a variety of locations in our bodies, mostly the neck, armpits, shoulders, hips and thighs. Fat is the body’s energy storage mechanism, if we consume more energy in food than we use, the difference is stored as fat. Unfortunately, we cannot control where the fat will be stored or where it will be used from first when exercising – everyone is different. With little evidence supporting that exercising specific muscles will result in fat being burnt in the same area, and with fat tending to become more visible with age, many Australian men and women look for proven, medical solutions to treat stubborn fat.

Here at Jade, we offer a number of treatments that are designed to target the fat cells directly – and our clients are loving the results!

Dehydrated Skin

Restore moisture and regain control of your skin.

Often confused with dry skin which is lacking in oil, dehydrated skin is lacking in moisture. Indications that skin is dehydrated are sensitivity, itchiness, dullness, dark circles under the eyes and increased appearance of wrinkles. Dehydrated skin can be caused by a number of factors, including not drinking enough water, excess consumption of alcohol or caffeine, smoking, insufficient sleep, poor diet, the effects of the sun, wind, air conditioning or heating, and some cosmetics.

Here at Jade, we offer a number of innovative treatments that restore moisture back to the cells to improve the appearance of the skin, and a number of skin problems.

Enlarged Pores

Refine your skin texture and restore radiance.

Our pores are small structures that allow oil and sweat to be released from the skin. While sweat pores are extremely small and cannot be seen with the naked eye, oil pores are larger and connect to oil glands under the skin – it is typically these pores that become enlarged. Oil pores are designed to release the skin’s natural oil, sebum, which keeps the skin moisturised and healthy. These pores may appear larger due to acne, the overproduction of sebum, sun damage, ageing and the effects of some cosmetic products.

Here at Jade, we offer a number of proven treatments that reduce the appearance of enlarged pores by getting to the cause of the problem.

facial vessels

Reduce facial redness and restore an even complexion.

We all have a network of tiny capillaries and veins that run beneath the surface of the skin. Normally, these vessels are not visible, but a condition called telangiectasia can cause the small vessels to widen, resulting in red or blue lines across the surface of the skin, often referred to as broken capillaries.

Due to the prominence of these vessels, we see many clients that are unhappy with their appearance of their skin and seek treatment. We use a number of treatments to reduce the appearance of prominent facial vessels to give you brighter, clearer skin.

jaw pain

Safely relieve jaw pain and clenching.

Located on both sides of the head at the point where the jawbone meets the skull, the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is used during talking, eating, swallowing, and other everyday activities.

If this joint becomes overworked through excessive teeth grinding or clenching, a person may suffer severe tension headaches, as well as jaw pain and associated dental damage.

Silent symptoms of Bruxism are unexplained nausea, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and migraine. Lisa Price has travelled to France to extend her knowledge in treating this particular medical condition.

melasma

For brighter, clearer, glowing skin.

Melasma is a common skin problem that results in dark blotchy patches on the skin of the face that are often symmetrical. It may also develop on the neck and forearms. It predominantly affects women, often first occurring between the ages of 20 – 40 years old, tends to run in families, and is more common in individuals with tanned skin. Melasma is often caused by hormonal changes during pregnancy, sun exposure, and some medications like contraceptives or hormone treatments.

Here at Jade, we help reduce the appearance of melasma by treating the surface of the skin, where the discolouration occurs. The result is noticeable improvements in the appearance of your skin – and a happy, confident you!

migraines

Approximately 20% of Australians will suffer from a migraine at some stage in their life.

Migraines are painful and frustrating, often thought of as extreme headaches that are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. A migraine may last for hours or even days, with the pain being so severe that it can impair normal life and regular function. Approximately 20% of Australians will suffer from a migraine at some stage in their life, most often occurring in those aged 35-45 years. In adulthood, women are twice as likely to suffer as men.

While the exact cause of migraines is variable and not well understood, muscle relaxants have proven to be effective in preventing migraines before they occur, and are currently used for this purpose worldwide. This is exactly what we offer here at Jade, we use muscle-relaxing injections precisely inserted into specific areas to help our migraine sufferers prevent the onset of this otherwise debilitating condition.

At Jade Clinic we have successfully treated hundreds of clients with a history of frequent migraine.

acne

Boost your skin quality and confidence.

As we age, expose our skin to the elements, and are affected by factors like stress, sleep and medications, our skin quality can worsen. Elements of poor skin quality can vary greatly, but may include spotting/discolouration, broken blood vessels, dryness or flakiness, scars (from acne or wounds), stretch marks and more. While this has a significant impact on our physical appearance, the impact on our confidence and the way we feel can be much greater.

Here at Jade, we have the tools and treatments to significantly improve the appearance of your skin using medically-proven treatments, leaving you with smooth, firm, more evenly toned and hydrated skin that will leave you glowing.

Rosacea

From irritated redness to healthy, radiant skin.

Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition that appears as redness and visible blood vessels on the face. It can also produce small red bumps that may contain pus. These symptoms often appear in flares, occurring for weeks to months before vanishing. Although it can affect anyone, rosacea most commonly affects middle-aged women with fair skin. Genetics, exposure to extreme temperatures, the microbes on our skin, emotional stress and some medications and cosmetics have been shown to contribute to the flare-ups.

Here at Jade, we offer a number of treatments that work on the surface of the skin to improve the appearance of rosacea and restore the quality of your skin.

Sagging skin

Restore skin firmness.

Our skin sags when it loses its natural ability to stretch and return to the same shape. This feature comes from two proteins contained within our skin – elastin, which helps our skin bounce back, and collagen, which keeps it looking firm.

Here at Jade, we help sagging skin by helping restore your skin’s collagen and elastin supplies, giving you a tighter, firmer skin appearance.

Sun Damage

Reverse the signs of sun damage.

Photoaging, which is described as skin damage caused by exposure to sunlight and UV, is estimated to be responsible for 90% of the changes to your skin as you age. Australians are particularly at risk from sun damage as Australia is exposed to some of the highest UV levels in the world, due to the ozone hole and our location close to the equator. UV light is only partially affected by clouds so even on overcast days you can still be exposed to the dangerous levels of UV light.

Skin is made up of several layers, with the middle layer containing the majority of the collagen and elastin that give skin its firm, smooth appearance. UV light is able to penetrate deep into the lower layers of the skin, damaging collagen fibres and the skin’s DNA. The changes to DNA reduce the skin’s ability to repair damage and over time accelerate the appearance of the sun damage on the skin.

Here at Jade, we help restore your skin to a more youthful, healthier appearance by working to repair the damage caused by the sun.

Unwanted Hair

Unwanted hair.

While it is common for both men and women to have a fine layer of light coloured hair across their skin, known as vellus hair, or colloquially, peach fuzz, unwanted hair refers to any excessive hair growing in areas where it is not common. The definition of ‘excessive’ is a matter of personal preference for each person. In women this is typically any visible hair on the face, chest and back. Unwanted hair is typically caused by higher levels of hormones (androgens) in the body.

Here at Jade, we offer two distinct treatments to professionally remove unwanted hair and leave you with smooth skin.

Excessive Sweating

Treat excessive sweating.

Excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, is a common condition involving overactive sweat glands of the underarm, hands and feet.

The treatment is a simple and quick procedure involving superficial injections of an anti-wrinkle product, commonly used to soften facial lines, to temporarily block the release of the chemical that signals perspiration. Positive effects are noticed as early as 5 days after treatment and have a duration of 9-12 months.

The cost of the procedure is $1,500.

Skin Pigmentation

Don’t let patchy, pigmented skin affect your confidence.

Darker spots on the skin can add years to your appearance. Hyperpigmentation can occur when the skin cells responsible for giving skin its colour (melanocytes) are damaged. This creates sun spots, age spots, freckles, melasma (see below) and pigmented acne scarring.

The cause of pigmentation changes may be from sun exposure, acne, injury, smoking, or as part of cell changes during the natural ageing process. It may also be hormonal. Up to 90% of pregnant women may experience pigmentation changes called melasma that affects their nose, cheekbones, upper lip and forehead, creating blotches of darker skin that can give them the appearance of wearing a mask.

We see and treat many men and women that feel self-conscious about the appearance of their pigmentation.

acne scarring

Acne treatments that actually work.

The effects of acne are much more than skin deep. While most cases of acne resolve, approximately 5% of people will be affected severely, and may leave scarring on the skin. Acne develops when a sebaceous gland at the end of your hair follicle produces too much oil called sebum, and bacteria builds up and causes a breakout. As hormones are a common trigger for acne, it often affects women in pregnancy and adolescents going through puberty.

When the skin is damaged by acne, your body will produce collagen to help mend the area. As part of the healing process, the area becomes red and raised. After this, it starts to break down again – and an acne scar results.

To treat acne, we combine the below treatments and products with assessing your diet, activities, current skincare routine and other lifestyle factors so we can break the acne cycle. Early treatment is essential for helping prevent acne scarring.
